I like ‘stranger comes to town’ stories too. This one sounds very good, I’d never heard of it before.

Germinal is definitely a great example. One of my favorites of all time.

First “stranger comes to town” book that came to mind was Germinal, by Emile Zola…in which a stranger comes to town in nineteenth century France and ignites a disastrous miner’s strike. A very different kind of book; a dense but wonderful read!

I’ve always heard it as there are only two basic plots: a stranger rides into town and a stranger rides out of town.

Sometimes you have to stretch, but almost everything can be forced into one of those two categories.
