How could I resist the Armchair BEA event? It’ll help me deal with the frustration of having to visit NY for work exactly one week after the BEA *sigh*.
Will anyone stay for an extra week? I’d love to meet up!
Today’s topics is Who Are You and How Do You Armchair? So here we go:
Who am I?
Hello! 🙂 I’m Alexandra, I’m 31 and I’m a Portuguese (from Lisbon) living in Brussels, Belgium. I do communications for a NGO working in international development. I’ve only been blogging since April 2010 and it’s been quite a ride. When I lived in other countries I went to lots of Bookcrossing meetings and had the chance to talk to other book-lovers, but the movement doesn’t seem to be so active over here. This blog was my way of getting back into The Conversation.
Apart from books I love pub quizzes, Miyazaki movies, anything related to Jane Austen (see my collection of P&P in several languages) and scarves.
How I Armchair
I read a bit of everything but tend to prefer classics, fantasy and literary fiction. A bit of non-fiction, graphic novels, YA and sci-fi once in a while. I do a lot of travelling, but don’t post much about it – I’m always afraid to bug people with non-book stuff. Maybe I’ll be braver about it with time.
Together with Joanna over at It’s all about me (time) I host the One, Two, Theme Challenge. We ask participants to read at least one fiction and one non-fiction book about topics they’ve always wanted to know more about. On the Challenge’s site you can see what topics each person chose. Mine are Istanbul/Constantinople, Art Restoration/Business, Honey/Bees, Olive/Olive Oil, The Medici and Eleanor of Aquitaine.
You can see photos of some of my blogging spaces here: Scene of the Blog.

I didn’t realise that you did a lot of travelling. I did a lot before I had children, but haven’t been brave enough to do much with the boys. I’d love to hear more about your travels, but I know what you mean about the balance between books + non-bookish stuff. I never know what to do and tend to be like you by having very little. I love the photo + would like to see some more 🙂

Oh wow! Love the picture and all the traveling, how neat! That’s so sad though that you can’t take part in BEA because of the timing. Ugh! I’d be frustrated too!
On behalf of the Armchair BEA organizers thanks so much for participating! We really are so happy to have you!

I didn’t know you do/did bookcrossing. It seems to be a bit more popular here in the Netherlands, although I’m not sure, I don’t do it, but I know some people who do. Meetings? I don’t know.
Have a good time at (Armchair) BEA, Alex!

Just want to say what an amazing photo! You make it look so natural to be reading outside a ger, enjoying its shade I suppose, on a hot summer day. (BTW, I’ve always thought it’s called a yurt.)
